Verdict
Pick Cursor if you want an AI-first editor for everyday coding, a free plan to try it on, and a choice of models (Grok models on Plus, third-party models at API list price on Premium and up).
Pick Claude Code if you want a terminal-first agent for long multi-file tasks and repo-wide refactors, and you already pay for Claude Pro or Max, which include it. It's our #1 coding agent.
Cursor is an editor you work inside; Claude Code is an agent you hand a task to, from a terminal, IDE extension, desktop app or browser. You don't have to choose: Claude Code's VS Code extension has an install link for Cursor. The money difference: Cursor has a free plan and Claude Code does not, because it needs a paid Claude plan or an Anthropic Console account.
