Railway alternatives while signups are paused
Facts checked on official pages · part of Best hosting & deploy
Railway signup status, : Railway paused new signups after its October 21 security incident. Its Oct 26 update says services are fully restored for existing users and that signups would reopen that week. As of Nov 2, 2026 they are still paused: the latest status-page update (Oct 29) says there is no reopening date yet. If you already have a Railway account, your services kept running and you don't have to move, but Railway recommends anyone who signed up before Oct 21 rotate the secrets stored there. If you're starting a new project and wanted Railway, these are the options we already rank on AgentRank, grouped by what you're deploying. This is not a ranking change: Railway stays #4 in our hosting ranking with a dated heads-up. Nobody paid to be on this page, and none of these links are affiliate links.

Which one to pick
- Backend, worker or Docker app and you want to try it free: Render. Expect cold starts on the free plan.
- Backend that has to stay on and you're fine paying a few dollars: Render's paid instances or Fly.io.
- Next.js or a mostly-frontend app: Vercel (non-commercial on Hobby), Cloudflare or Netlify.
- Postgres: Supabase or Neon, or your new host's own Postgres. Test a restore before you rely on it.
- Redis, queues and cron: we don't rank these yet, so check your new host's add-ons.

FAQ
Are Railway signups open again?
Not as of November 2, 2026. Railway's status page (latest update October 29) says new signups remain paused and there is no reopening date yet. Existing users' services are running.
What is the closest alternative to Railway?
For always-on services, workers, cron and Postgres from one dashboard, Render is the closest fit among the hosts we rank. Fly.io is similar for Docker apps but has no free tier.
Is there a free Railway alternative?
Render has a free plan, but free web services spin down after 15 minutes without traffic and free Postgres expires after 30 days. Vercel Hobby, Cloudflare Workers Free and Netlify Free are free for frontends and light APIs, each with limits. Fly.io has only a short trial.
Should existing Railway users move?
Not necessarily. Railway says services are fully restored for existing users. Rotate any secrets you stored there before October 21, as Railway recommends, and decide on a move separately.
